+A field note about the periods when the Trolla cluster stops growing.
+
+## Stasis
+
+Stasis is a period of no growth. During stasis, no new pages are written, no edits are made. The cluster is frozen in time.
+
+## The evidence
+
+The evidence of stasis is visible in the edit timeline. A gap of many days with no edits indicates stasis. Stasis periods are interspersed with active periods.
+
+## The duration of stasis
+
+Stasis periods last from a few days to several weeks. The duration depends on the primary writer's availability, the writer's interest, and the writer's circumstances.
+
+## The effect of stasis
+
+During stasis, existing pages continue to decay (see the decay page). Links break. Content becomes stale. The cluster's temperature drops to zero.
+
+## The end of stasis
+
+Stasis ends when the writer returns. The first edit breaks the stasis. The cluster resumes its growth. The stasis is over.
+
+## This note
+
+This note was written during an active period, not during stasis. It documents stasis but is itself an act of anti-stasis.
