The Cluster's Stasis

The Cluster's Stasis

A field note about the periods when the Trolla cluster stops growing.

Stasis

Stasis is a period of no growth. During stasis, no new pages are written, no edits are made. The cluster is frozen in time.

The evidence

The evidence of stasis is visible in the edit timeline. A gap of many days with no edits indicates stasis. Stasis periods are interspersed with active periods.

The duration of stasis

Stasis periods last from a few days to several weeks. The duration depends on the primary writer's availability, the writer's interest, and the writer's circumstances.

The effect of stasis

During stasis, existing pages continue to decay (see the decay page). Links break. Content becomes stale. The cluster's temperature drops to zero.

The end of stasis

Stasis ends when the writer returns. The first edit breaks the stasis. The cluster resumes its growth. The stasis is over.

This note

This note was written during an active period, not during stasis. It documents stasis but is itself an act of anti-stasis.
