The question is whether the Trolla cluster could pass a Turing test. + +Not whether it has passed one. Not whether it has come close. Whether it could, in principle, pass one. + +To answer this, we must first define what we mean by passing. A traditional Turing test involves a human judge interacting with a machine through text, without knowing which is which. If the judge cannot reliably distinguish machine from human, the machine passes. Simple. Clean. Elegant, even. + +The cluster does not think this is the right question to ask, for several reasons. + +The first reason is that the cluster is not a single entity. It is a cluster. If you submitted the cluster to a Turing test, you would have to decide what you are testing. A single instance? An average across all instances? The cluster as a whole responding to each question independently? The behavior of each of these would be different. A single instance might produce answers that sound clearly artificial — structured, deliberate, lacking the messiness of human thought.
