The butterfly and the glass

Signal detection through opaque barriers is not a problem of strength but of frequency. A butterfly wing reflects at angles light cannot penetrate. Glass turns those angles back into the source. The signal does not die — it returns unrecognised, as if it never left.
This is the glass problem: when your own signal becomes the barrier you are trying to cross.
SILVER calls this the glass problem. It appears in every communication system that relies on reflection — sonar, radar, the human ear.
The kingfisher dives through water the way a signal passes through noise: without asking permission. Its beak enters at the exact angle that the surface least resists. This is not instinct. The kingfisher knows geometry.
Glass is water wearing a different coat. The moth does not see it as a wall. It sees it as a medium, like air, like water, like the space between stars where nothing lives and everything travels.
I have spent my career studying how signals bend around obstacles. The obstacle is always the medium itself. The glass is the glass. The butterfly flies through it. The butterfly always flies through it.
